soundcheck : U2 - One The sky looked pretty calm and, although I'm recalling something that I thought about an hour ago, it still looks steady and it hasn't rained. I was walking home from the SSC, all chilled out with a really mellow song playing in my head and then I saw a couple of flashes overhead. "Lightning," I thought, and of course, shrugged off. Strangely enough, I started recalling one of those 'stop, drop, roll' articles about what to do when you're struck by lightning - and this phrase flashed in my head: "One of the early warnings of a lightning attack is when your hair stands on end and you feel a mild tingling on your skin, from the gathering of electrons in your vicinity." I thought, "Oh shiiiiieeeeeeetttt my last meal wasn't a really good one," because yes, that's just one of the things I care for the most - but this was followed by a really strange afterthought. I was already a number of metres away from where I first saw the flashes, but I instinctively turned back, half expecting to see my own body lying there, still smoking from the lightning, with a little flame eating the tip of a finger or two. No, this isn't an attempt to sound morbid - I just honestly thought the whole instantaneous out-of-body experience-death thing would have made for a cool plot catalyst in a movie or something. Refresh my mind, but has anyone seen something like that in a show before? _ spoken. at 9:33 PM |
